Cutting Straight
Bible studies

Rightly dividing the word of truth.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15, KJV

Cutting Straight publishes Bible studies that show their work. Each study starts from a plain question and answers it from Scripture. It shows the passages and the Hebrew and Greek words each conclusion rests on, so you can check it for yourself instead of taking it on trust.

The name

The name

The site's domain name, "cuttingstraight," is based on 2 Timothy 2:15. Paul's word for "rightly dividing" is ὀρθοτομοῦντα (orthotomounta), from ὀρθός, "straight," and τέμνω, "to cut." It's a craftsman's word: cutting a straight, true line, not zig-zagging with it. "Rightly dividing" keeps the sense; this site keeps the picture.

The method

Cutting straight, in practice

Plain sense

The text means what it plainly says, read in its grammar and its historical setting, unless the text itself signals otherwise.

Scripture on Scripture

Doctrine is drawn from every passage that bears on it, the clear passages first, and all of them must agree.

The languages

Each passage is read in the NKJV and the KJV. Every Hebrew or Greek word a conclusion turns on is checked, and shown on the page.

Rightly divided

Scripture is read through a dispensational framework, which recognizes God's distinct programs and administrations across history.

Show the work

Every section names the verses it rests on. Historical background can help explain a passage, but it never proves a doctrine.

Settled or open

Every conclusion is graded by how firmly the text establishes it. Where Scripture does not settle a question, the study says so.

The studies

Three kinds of study

Studies are added as each one passes review. They are grouped by how the text is worked.

Companion site

The Interdimensional Deception

A companion to the book The Interdimensional Deception: a Scripture companion for each chapter, the book's bibliography, a record of UAP and disclosure developments since the book, and coverage and commentary on how the story is being told.

Its Bible study follows the rules on this site. The rest is reporting, sources, and commentary from outside Scripture, which the checking described on this page does not cover.
