What does Scripture say happens when the promises are kept?
Question 5 of 5. Only what the texts name plainly: the people, the city, the King, and His throne.
Where it begins
A reader who has followed the first four questions will ask the obvious next one: if the promises still stand, what does Scripture say will happen when they are kept? This question answers only where Scripture names its subject in the verse itself. It does not try to settle the order or timing of end-time events, which is a study of its own.
The answer Settled
Scripture names Israel at every step. Daniel's seventy weeks are determined for Daniel's people and his holy city, which Daniel had just named as Israel and Jerusalem. A time of trouble is coming on Jacob unlike any before it, and the same verses carry the named people through it to deliverance.
Jesus will return in person. The same Jesus the disciples watched go up will come in the same way, and Zechariah describes the LORD's feet standing on the Mount of Olives. The house of David and the people of Jerusalem will look on the One they pierced and mourn for Him. And Jesus will reign on the throne of His father David, over the house of Jacob, forever, just as Ezekiel promised Israel David as king in their own land forever.
